If you lead a team of people in any capacity, you surely have the conn. You may be holding the rudder to give direction to your boat, but unless your crew rows in unison and in perfect synchronization, the boat is going nowhere. In my 32 years of experience of working which includes the highly disciplined and organized defense sector, then as an entrepreneur, as CEO of an online education company and in the manufacturing industry, I have observed the transition of a human being from being ‘human’ to a ‘resource’ happening at an astonishing pace. People are now ‘resources’ or ‘assets’ for a corporate and the management focus on sustaining the business in a volatile market takes precedence over the ‘human aspect’ of managing the workforce that is responsible for the productivity of the business in the first place.
In this blog, I have tried to put together some of my experiences of the past 31 years in working with teams that should help you understand the human aspect of working with people and getting the best out of them. My attempt is to make the leaders and managers of the modern corporate culture to realize that no company balance sheet values relationships within an organization but the values on the balance sheet are a result of the relationships within an organization.
